Director, Accounting (General Ledger)

Job Description: Overview: The Director, Accounting leads the firm’s general ledger operations, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and company policy. This role oversees all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; implements robust controls and reconciliation practices; and drives process improvements across the accounting organization. Responsibilities: Oversee the firm’s general ledger accounting, including journal entries and account reconciliations. Manage and continuously improve the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial results. Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation to ensure compliance with GAAP and corporate governance standards. Research accounting issues, assess implications of accounting standards, and develop well-documented conclusions and memos that support the company’s accounting treatment and policy decisions. Prepare and review internal financial statements and reports; ensure alignment between the GL, sub-ledgers, and reporting systems. Ensure audit readiness and timely completion of audit deliverables. Collaborate closely with other accounting teams to ensure alignment, accuracy, and consistency across all financial processes and reporting. Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team focused on accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred. 10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including at least 5 years in leadership. Public accounting experience required, preferably with exposure to audits and technical accounting. Experience in AEC, construction, or professional services industries preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards. Proven ability to lead multi-entity accounting operations and close processes. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities. Excellent communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Strategic mindset with operational discipline and attention to detail.
