Position Summary
The Digital Press Operator is responsible for operating, maintaining, and producing high-quality work on digital printing equipment while ensuring customer specifications, color accuracy, and production deadlines are consistently met.
This position works closely with Prepress, Customer Service, Project Managers, Finishing, Shipping, and Production Management to ensure efficient workflow and outstanding customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Digital Press Operation
- Set up and operate production digital presses
- Review job tickets and verify customer specifications
- Maintain accurate color consistency and registration
- Monitor print quality throughout production runs
- Perform test prints and obtain approvals when required
- Produce jobs accurately while meeting daily production schedules
- Ensure completed work meets Panther Graphics quality standards
Equipment Maintenance
- Perform daily preventative maintenance
- Clean equipment according to manufacturer specifications
- Replace consumables as needed
- Monitor equipment performance
- Troubleshoot minor production issues
- Coordinate service calls when necessary
Production Responsibilities
- Prioritize work based on production schedules
- Maintain productivity standards
- Minimize waste and maximize material utilization
- Verify quantities and quality before forwarding jobs to finishing
- Complete production documentation accurately
- Assist with workflow improvements
Quality Control
- Inspect printed pieces for:
- Color accuracy
- Registration
- Image quality
- Variable data accuracy
- Finishing compatibility
- Overall appearance
- Ensure jobs meet customer expectations before release
Team Collaboration
- Communicate production status with Project Managers
- Work closely with Prepress to resolve file issues
- Coordinate with Bindery and Shipping to meet deadlines
- Assist coworkers during high-volume production periods
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Qualifications
Required
- 2 years operating production digital printing equipment
- Strong understanding of commercial printing processes
- Ability to read production job tickets
- Basic computer proficiency
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods
Preferred
Experience operating equipment such as:
- Ricoh Pro Series
- Canon imagePRESS
- Xerox Iridesse
- Konica Minolta AccurioPress
- HP Indigo
- Mimaki Wide Format Printers
- EFI Fiery RIP Software
Experience with:
- Variable Data Printing (VDP)
- Color Management
- PDF Workflow
- Fiery Command WorkStation
- PrintSmith or other MIS systems
