What You'll Do
- Support Metrology Operations and other organizations with processes involving calibration of measurement standards and other measurement and test equipment
- Read, interpret and apply complex drawings, schematics and specifications
- Research required data to validate the accuracy of the data
- Further preferable skills include Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) operation (MOX), technical software (e.g., Mathcad), relational database queries (e.g., Structured Query Language (SQL) or Crystal Reports)
- Ability to exchange and use information between software applications
- Mentor less experienced co-workers in the metrology field
- Develop precision measurement criteria. Set up instrument specifications and test points in Metrology’s LIMS
- Develop, optimize, write and maintain detailed calibration procedures
- Perform and document measurement uncertainty analyses, including test-uncertainty ratio analyses, accuracy and precision studies and inter-laboratory comparisons
- Analyze calibration data to troubleshoot measurement reliability problems and optimize calibration intervals
- Validate calibration process quality, safety and security, evaluate calibration measurement out-of-tolerance condition impacts, automate and improve calibration and other processes
- Specify, procure and implement measurement systems to satisfy calibration requirements
- Interpret and comply with technical, operational, and maintenance, quality, safety and security requirements
- Create comprehensive, detailed, organized work records and submit documents for USQE (unanswered safety question evaluation)
- Understand quality and departmental operating procedures to maintain compliance with the principles and requirements in International Organization of Standards, ISO 17025, Testing and Calibration Laboratories, ISO 17034 General requirements for the competence of reference material producers and RO28, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Metrology Program; such as traceability, laboratory environments, closed-loop calibrations, measurement tolerance and uncertainty, calibration intervals, calibration records, and documentation
- Support Primary Standards Laboratory (PSL) technical surveys and audits, Self-assess metrology and related operations
- Evaluate accreditation scopes and survey calibration service vendors and subcontractors for technical competence
- Participate on subcontractor and vendor surveys
- Provide technical support for internal and external customers
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Master's degree: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
- OR Applicants without a bachelor's degree may be considered based on a combination of at least 10 years of completed education and/or relevant experience.
- In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.
