What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dementia Caregiver | Day Shift | Starting at $19 | New Haven, North Haven and surrounding areas. position at Pansy Homecare Service, LLC?
Starting at $19hr | 8AM–8PM | High-Standard Private Homes
This is not a “babysitting” role.
We care for individuals living with moderate to advanced dementia in private homes where professionalism, awareness, and emotional maturity matter.
We are looking for Memory Care Partners who can remain calm, observant, and regulated — even when situations are confusing, repetitive, or emotionally intense.
If you become reactive, defensive, or overwhelmed easily, this position will not be a fit.
What This Role Actually Requires
Memory Care Partners don’t just “sit with someone.” You’re day includes 3 things:
- Core care & safety - This includes ADLs and IADLs including Keeping the home environment safe and med reminders
- Engagement & everyday activities - We focus heavily on keeping people involved in everyday life. We work with families to identify “Moments That Matter.”
- Support for the family - Memory Care Partners also help reduce stress for the family by:
- Keeping the home organized
- Observing changes in behavior or condition
- Documenting what happened during the shift
- Communicating important updates to the care team
So the day is usually a mix of care, conversation, and normal daily routines, depending on the person’s needs and energy that day.
No two days look exactly the same. Every day is a little different, but the goal is simple: care, connection, and helping the person stay part of daily life.
You must treat caregiving as a profession — not a favor.
You will:
- Provide hands-on personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding assistance) Stay actively engaged throughout the shift Follow a structured care plan exactly as written Document every 2 hours (required, not optional) Notice and report cognitive or behavioral changes immediately Communicate professionally with families and the office Maintain composure during resistance, repetition, or emotional outbursts
This is structured dementia care — not passive supervision.
The Type of Clients You Will Support
Our clients may:
- Repeat the same question 20 times Refuse care Accuse you of taking items Become emotionally tearful or agitated Experience hallucinations Be in late-stage or end-of-life decline
We train you in how to respond appropriately using structured methods (STOP Method, validation, redirection).
You are not expected to be perfect. You are expected to stay regulated and follow protocol.
