What are the responsibilities and job description for the Database Developer position at Panagon Systems?
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Application / Database Support Programmer to help maintain and improve our internal business software systems. This role will primarily support our existing database system built on Helix (originally by QSA Tool Works, now supported by Big Giant Donut).
This position is ideal for someone with a basic understanding of relational databases who enjoys problem-solving and learning new systems. While prior experience with Helix or Big Giant Donut software is a plus, we are open to training the right candidate who has a strong technical foundation, a willingness to learn, and a good attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with maintaining and updating our existing database and applications.
- Create and modify forms, reports, and basic functionality within the system.
- Help troubleshoot errors and support day-to-day system issues.
- Assist in adding new features and making improvements based on business needs.
- Support improvements to layout, page flow, and usability as the system transitions to a web-based client.
- Work with internal users to understand issues and help implement practical solutions.
- Document changes and assist with keeping systems organized and reliable.
Requirements
- Basic understanding of relational databases and how data is structured.
- General programming or technical experience (professional, academic, or personal projects).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn a specialized software platform and internal business processes.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small team.
- Good communication skills and a positive, teachable attitude.
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience with Helix, Big Giant Donut, or similar database-driven applications.
- Familiarity with web-based applications or UI/UX concepts.
- Manufacturing or business system experience.
