Position Overview:
Palo Alto County Health System (PACHS) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our behavioral health team. This advanced practice role provides comprehensive mental health care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management for patients across the lifespan. The ideal candidate will be committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to improve mental health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental status examinations.
- Diagnose and treat mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and substance use disorders.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring efficacy and side effects.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Provide psychotherapy and counseling services to individuals, families, and groups.
- Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals for integrated care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records.
- Stay current with psychiatric research, best practices, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.
Requirements:
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing with a focus on Psychiatric/Mental Health.
- Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) by ANCC.
- Current license to practice as an APRN in Iowa.
- Valid DEA license and Controlled Substance Registration.
- Completion of ACLS and PALS preferred.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in EHR systems.
Preferred Experience:
- 1–2 years of clinical experience in psychiatric or mental health settings.
- Experience with diverse patient populations and co-occurring conditions.
- Familiarity with telehealth services is a plus.
