Position Overview
Palo Alto County Health System (PACHS) is seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Cardiac-Pulmonary Registered Nurse to join our Outpatient Cardiopulmonary Services team. This role is essential in guiding patients through their cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs, providing education, monitoring progress, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The ideal candidate will be clinically skilled, patient-focused, and committed to providing quality patient centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage patient referrals, insurance coordination, and scheduling.
- Interpret cardiac arrhythmias and respond to adverse changes.
- Conduct 6-Minute Walk Tests (6MWT) at admission and discharge.
- Monitor cardiovascular responses to exercise and adjust plans accordingly.
- Respond to emergencies using ACLS protocols and initiate Code Blue when needed.
- Operate specialized equipment including telemetry, defibrillators, treadmills, ventilators, and EKG machines.
- Complete and maintain Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs) for physician review.
- Communicate with providers regarding patient concerns and progress.
- Identify fall risks and modify exercise plans for safety.
- Provide discharge instructions and promote continued wellness through follow-up programs.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and team huddles.
- Maintain current certifications and complete required training and competencies.
- Assist with stress tests and Holter monitor applications if trained.
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current Iowa RN license.
- Completion of Dependent/Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporting within 6 months of hire and renewal every 5 years.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in cardiac rhythm monitoring preferred.
Skills:
- Strong clinical assessment and emergency response skills.
- Proficient in use of cardiopulmonary equipment and EMR systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing healthcare environments.
- Basic computer proficiency.
