Position Overview
Palmer Industries is seeking a Brass Polisher to join our Finishing Department. This role focuses primarily on polishing and satin-finishing brass components to achieve Palmer’s renowned level of quality. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, experience with both hand and machine finishing, and a commitment to excellence.
Opportunities may also arise to support spray and coating operations, including lacquer and polymer ceramic thin film coatings, depending on skill and department needs.
Key Responsibilities
Brass Polishing & Surface Finishing
- Polish, buff, and satin-finish brass components using both manual techniques and automatic machines.
- Prepare and refine surfaces through hand and machine sanding.
- Inspect components for imperfections such as scratches, pits, or blemishes, ensuring adherence to Palmer’s high-quality standards.
- Maintain consistency in tone, sheen, and finish across all parts.
Surface Preparation
- Perform sandblasting and other preparation techniques to achieve ideal substrate conditions.
- Handle and move parts safely throughout the finishing process.
Optional Spray & Coating Support
- Assist with HVLP spray booth setup and operation for lacquer and polymer ceramic thin film coatings.
- Support coating preparation and cleanup as needed.
- Learn and apply coating techniques to expand finishing capabilities.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate and maintain polishing, sanding, and finishing tools and machinery.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic troubleshooting on finishing equipment.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the Production and Engineering teams to ensure finishes meet project specifications.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2–5 years of experience in metal finishing, brass polishing, or a related trade preferred.
- Skilled in both polished and satin finishes, sanding, and surface preparation.
- Basic familiarity with HVLP spray systems or interest in learning coating applications.
- Ability to read shop drawings and match visual finish samples.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining quality under production deadlines.
- Physically able to lift up to 60 lbs, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks safely.
