What are the responsibilities and job description for the GENERAL MAINTENANCE MECHANIC position at Palm Beach County?
Performs semi-skilled work and assists higher-level coworkers in performing further-skilled tasks in the repair, maintenance, and installation of building, plumbing fixtures/equipment, air-conditioning, electrical, and other mechanical equipment. Handles minor plastering, drywall, cement work, and interior/exterior painting. Assists with maintenance of walls, doors, floors, buildings, stairways, windows, screens, wood fixtures, and furniture. Supports general upkeep of our buildings to ensure a clean, safe, and functional environment.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of four (4) years of experience in building/facilities maintenance, repair, or construction at the semi-skilled level.
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE: Repairing, maintaining, or installing carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or air-conditioning equipment in a commercial/institutional/correctional facility (must specify on application); using electrical/mechanical equipment (must specify on application). Also desirable: Formal training in building maintenance/construction trades; valid FL Class A/B/C CDL.
Must be able to lift 75 pounds. Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment. Respiratory screen/chest x-ray and Hearing Loss Test required for selected candidate.
Will be required to pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) background check in addition to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office background check prior to appointment.
