Performs administrative and supervisory work within the Animal Care and Control Division of the Public Safety Department. Plans, develops, organizes, and executes operations and directs employee and volunteer training activities/development. Monitors the maintenance of cages, runs, buildings, and grounds at the facility; submits requests for repairs. Supervises the feeding, cleaning, caring, and recordkeeping of impounded animals at the facility. Trains staff in functions related to kennel operations. Develops new training programs to increase staff productivity, ensure the enrichment of animals to increase adoptability, and promote humane treatment of animals. Work is performed under the general direction of an administrative superior and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observations of results obtained.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of three (3) years of animal shelter experience, which includes six (6) months of supervisory experience. Equivalency: Associate’s Degree AND one (1) year of related experience, which includes six (6) months of supervisory experience.
Necessary Special Requirement: Must obtain and maintain Florida Animal Control Association (FACA) Euthanasia Technician Certification within six (6) months of hire.
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE: Developing/implementing animal care and control programs; overseeing animal shelter operations (must specify on application); performing daily shelter animals inventory; preparing an animal shelter/staff for increased or sudden mass impounds (must specify on application); using Chameleon/other animal shelter tracking system (must specify on application). Also desirable: Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience working in an animal-related setting.
