Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Motor Equipment Operator III to operate heavy, motor-driven earth-moving equipment in support of public works construction and maintenance projects. This role requires precision, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including loaders, dozers, graders, draglines, backhoes, cranes, rollers, and transport trucks
- Perform excavation, grading, dredging support, ditch cleaning, and road construction/maintenance
- Ensure work is completed according to engineering specifications and safety standards
- Inspect equipment and identify potential malfunctions
- Assist with smaller equipment operation and general labor tasks as needed
- Support and occasionally lead small field crews
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, including shops and surrounding facilities
- Perform related duties as assigned
Licenses & Certifications (as required)
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL – Class A, B, or C) within required timeframe
- May be required to obtain a CDL Class B with tanker endorsement within specified deadlines
- May be required to obtain CPR, AED, and Safe Boater certifications within the first year.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy earth-moving equipment (or equivalent combination of training and experience)
- Strong knowledge of equipment operation, capabilities, limitations, and safety practices
- Ability to follow engineering grades and specifications accurately
- Ability to identify and report equipment issues
- Effective communication skills in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE WITH: Construction/maintenance of athletic fields; operating a roto-tiller/aerator/laser grader; operating a tractor/front-end loader/skid loader; operating a roller/top dresser/sod cutter/cone/plane laser grader; leading a small crew/directing the work of others. Also desirable: Florida Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) Certification; possession of a valid FL Class A CDL with Air Brakes Endorsement.
