Position SummaryThe Logistics Manager oversees and optimizes the transportation, distribution, and warehousing operations to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of products. This role manages daily logistics planning, driver operations, routing, and vendor relationships, with a strong focus on food safety, DOT compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Oversee daily delivery operations, including routing, dispatch, and transportation scheduling to ensure on-time and in-full deliveries.
- Manage inbound and outbound logistics processes, coordinating with warehouse and procurement teams.
- Develop and maintain efficient routing plans that reduce mileage, fuel use, and labor costs.
- Monitor temperature control and food handling procedures to maintain compliance with FDA, USDA, and company standards.
- Oversee maintenance scheduling, inspections, and DOT compliance for the company’s vehicle fleet.
- Train and enforce company policies related to safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA.
- Maintain accurate driver qualification files, vehicle maintenance logs, and incident reports.
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as delivery accuracy, on-time performance, cost per route, and fleet utilization.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, freight carriers, and repair vendors.
- Serve as escalation point for customer delivery concerns and work cross-functionally to resolve service issues promptly.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and hiring qualified drivers in coordination with Human Resources and operations leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on operational and business needs.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
- 3 years of experience in logistics, distribution, or transportation management, preferably in the food distribution or perishable goods industry.
- 2 years of supervisory or managerial experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations and fleet safety programs.
- Working knowledge of route optimization, TMS (Transportation Management Systems), and warehouse operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/logistics systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required.
