Public Transportation Driver

JOB DESCRIPTION

1. POSITION TITLE: DRIVER ( Demand-Response)

2. PROGRAM COMPONENT: PTA SUPERVISOR: Executive Director

3. JOB SUMMARY: Trained Operator primarily drives wheelchair accessible vehicles designed for public transportation services. Drivers are required to comply with traffic regulations at all times while traveling to specified destinations according to time schedules, and assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle. Utilization of 2-way radio and mobile data – touch screen tablet is required to maintain contact with dispatch and ensure documentation of transportation services provided.

4. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain assigned routes and schedules
• Maintain accurate, legible and complete daily reports and forward to office on a timely basis
• Maintain order on vehicle at all times reporting any unsafe, unruly or disruptive behavior
• Maintain clean, well-groomed appearance
• Ensure time charged to PTA is spent completing assigned duties
• Communicate all transit activities to supervisor
• Assist all passengers using proper techniques in safe, courteous, professional and friendly manner
• Handle all persons in mobility devises and/using the lift in a safe manner to not cause injury to the passenger or self
• Maintain preventive maintenance checks (pre-trip / post-trip) and report problems to maintenance supervisor on a timely basis
• Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of vehicle
• Utilize the mobile tablet units correctly for client transportation purposes.
• Note: tampering with the tablet unit is a violation of employment policy.

5. POSITIONS SUPERVISED: NONE

6. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma, GED and/or combination of education and five years safe driving experience. Home or cell phone required, must be resident of area served and a valid state of residence driver’s license.
Must be physically capable to assist ambulatory and non-ambulatory passengers. Drivers are subject to an annual physical as well as routine DOT drug screening as required.

The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to assist wheelchair clients. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, and vehicle vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud while transporting passengers.
