Position Overview:
PACO Group (PACO) is seeking a highly experienced Painting Inspector to join our project team supporting the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) at the Throgs Neck Bridge. The Painting Inspector will oversee and ensure the quality, safety, and compliance of all protective coating and painting activities on major infrastructure rehabilitation projects at the Throgs Neck Bridge. This includes surface preparation, coating application, and inspection of structural steel elements. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of industrial coatings, experience with bridge or structural steel projects, and relevant industry certifications.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervise and inspect all surface preparation, coating, and painting operations for compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Verify proper surface preparation, coating application, thickness, curing, and adhesion of coatings.
- Inspect completed coating systems to ensure coverage, quality, and defect-free finishes.
- Monitor and document field painting work on structural components such as girders, floorbeams, bracing, and deck plates.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and hazardous material regulations.
- Review contractor submittals and inspection reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions to the Resident Engineer and project team.
Required Qualifications:
- NACE Level III or SSPC Bridge Coating Inspection (BCI) or SSPC PCI Level 2/3 (accepted equivalent) certification required for painting oversight.
- Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in coating and painting inspection on bridge or heavy infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of SSPC, NACE, and OSHA standards and coating system specifications.
- Strong knowledge of construction inspection, QA/QC practices, and environmental compliance.
- Prior experience working on MTA projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction technology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with bridge or structural rehabilitation projects strongly preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, and MS Teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have strong presentation skills.
Work Environment and Schedule:
- Full-time, on-site role based at the Throgs Neck Bridge project.
- Work includes day and night shifts during painting operations.
- Field work may include working at heights, on scaffolding, and in confined spaces.
- Travel within the New York metropolitan area may be required for meetings, inspections, or site visits.
Compensation:
- The good-faith salary range for this position is $40-$50 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications and client requirements.
- Candidates with greater depth of experience or specialized expertise may fall toward the higher end of the range, and exceptional candidates may be considered for compensation outside of this range, consistent with client budget and company policy.
