Position Summary:
The Fire Protection Plan Reviewer is responsible for conducting comprehensive code reviews of tenant alteration plans and associated fire protection system designs. This role ensures that all proposed modifications meet applicable fire codes, life safety standards, and regulatory compliance requirements at PANYNJ facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Review tenant design submittals for compliance with NYC Fire Code, NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 13, 14, 25, 72), and NYS/NJ state and local codes.
Evaluate plans involving fire suppression systems (sprinklers, standpipes), fire alarms, smoke control, emergency lighting, fire barriers, egress, and hazardous materials storage.
Interpret design drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation.
Identify code deficiencies and provide written comments to the Engineering Department.
Participate in technical meetings with tenants, consultants, and other stakeholders to clarify code-related issues and propose solutions.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in fire safety codes, technology, and materials.
Coordinate with related disciplines such as mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering reviewers to ensure holistic code conformance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in NY and/or NJ or NICET Level IV Certification in Fire Protection Systems Design.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in fire protection system design and code compliance.
Strong working knowledge of NYC Construction Code, ASME A17.1, NFPA codes, and state/local amendments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with review workflows in public agency environments is preferred.
Hourly Rate: $60-80/hr; Commensurate With Experience
