Position Overview
PACO Group (PACO) is seeking a skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer (Level IV–VI) to support the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Construction & Development (MTA C&D) under its Signals and Train Control (S&TC) Business Unit. The Electrical Engineer will perform design and technical analysis services for ongoing and upcoming infrastructure improvement projects, including the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) System Upgrade initiative. This role focuses on preparing detailed electrical design drawings, performing calculations, developing technical specifications, and ensuring all deliverables comply with NEC, AREMA, NYC Building Code, and MTA C&D standards. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in electrical power design, UPS systems, and infrastructure modernization who can contribute to MTA C&D’s ongoing capital improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Design & Technical Support
• Prepare detailed contract drawings, plans, and specifications in accordance with MTA C&D standards.
• Perform electrical load, lighting, and voltage-drop calculations.
• Develop electrical and lighting plans, wiring diagrams, facility riser and single-line diagrams, conduit layouts, and related documentation in strict compliance with NEC and AREMA standards.
• Produce high-quality technical reports, estimates, and supporting documentation.
• Ensure strict adherence to applicable codes, standards, and design best practices.
Coordination & QA/QC
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
• Participate in design progress meetings and coordinate interdisciplinary design activities.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews of electrical and lighting design deliverables prepared by team members or consultants.
• Maintain design documentation consistency and version control per MTA C&D procedures.
System Integration
• Support the integration of UPS systems and backup power equipment into existing signal and control infrastructure.
• Coordinate with electrical, civil, and mechanical disciplines to verify interface accuracy and design compatibility.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Seven (7) years of progressive experience in electrical design and engineering.
• Proficiency in MicroStation or comparable design software.
• Demonstrated experience developing electrical drawings, calculations, and specifications.
• Experience with complex electrical systems, including testing and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and backup battery systems.
• Solid understanding of NEC, AREMA, and NYC Building Code requirements.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
• New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred).
• Experience working with the MTA or other public transportation or infrastructure agencies.
• Familiarity with MTA C&D design procedures, standards, and document formats.
• Knowledge of MTA standards and subway design is a plus.
• Prior experience on power distribution or signal support systems in rail/transit environments.
• Coursework or certification in Project Management, Electrical Safety, or QA/QC.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong technical proficiency in electrical power design, distribution systems, and UPS integration.
• Excellent technical writing and documentation abilities.
• Skilled in managing multiple projects while maintaining design accuracy and compliance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bluebeam, and MicroStation/AutoCAD.
• Team-oriented professional who can work independently or collaboratively in a design office environment.
Work Environment and Schedule
• Primary Work Location: 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004 (MTA C&D – Signals & Train Control Department).
• Work Type: Primarily office-based design position with the option for hybrid/remote flexibility at MTA’s discretion.
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
• Site visits may be required occasionally for field verification or coordination meetings.
Compensation
• The good-faith salary range for this position is $55–$70 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and client requirements.
• Candidates with greater depth of experience or specialized expertise may fall toward the higher end of the range, and exceptional candidates may be considered for compensation outside of this range, consistent with client budget and company policy.
