GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Training and Development Coordinator creates, implements, and evaluates training and professional development programs that enhance employee capability and performance across the University. This position collaborates with campus partners to assess learning needs, design and coordinate innovative learning solutions, and track outcomes to ensure continuous improvement. The Coordinator promotes a culture of learning, engagement, and accountability and assists in developing training materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as the primary point of contact for training logistics. Schedules rooms, manages virtual meeting links, coordinates with external vendors, and prepares all physical and digital training materials.
- Assists in adapting existing materials into development programs, workshops, online courses, and learning resources using instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles.
- Collaborates with Subject Matter Experts and Legal/HR department to develop, refresh training materials, and deliver required training, ensuring content meets current, local, state, and federal mandates.
- Administers post-training surveys and assessments. Aggregates data into monthly reports and dashboards for leadership to review program attendance and basic participant satisfaction.
- Develop and maintain accurate records of participation, completion rates, evaluation results, and retraining requirements in the current HRIS system or other tracking tools.
- Draft and distribute internal communications (newsletters, emails, and flyers) to promote upcoming professional development opportunities and learning initiatives across campuses.
- Utilize existing University tools (Moodle, LinkedIn Learning) to deliver content.
- Supports the University Learning Management System (Moodle, LinkedIn Learning). Responsibilities include enrolling employees in courses, troubleshooting user access issues, and ensuring completion records are 100% accurate for audits.
- Monitors mandatory federal and state training requirements (e.g., Harassment Prevention, FERPA). Sends automated and manual reminders to employees to ensure the University maintains high compliance rates.
- Collaborates with the HR team to ensure new hires are successfully integrated into the University’s required training tracks during their onboarding.
- Coordinate with HR and department leadership to ensure consistent communication and alignment on professional development priorities.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Engage in professional development opportunities.
- Participate in university-wide, Divisional, or departmental committees, task forces, and hiring processes, offering expertise to strengthen institutional systems and effective centralized operations that promote student success, equity, and engagement.
- Contribute to strategic planning, goal setting, evaluation, and assessment within Human Resources and Payroll, supporting data-informed decision making and continuous improvement.
- Support key University and Human Resources events and traditions that build community and belonging.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of Human Resources.
JOB SCOPE
- Scope of responsibility aligns with the Essential Functions described above.
- Assists in the implementation and coordination of comprehensive training and development initiatives that support University goals and compliance requirements.
- Maintains accurate documentation and reporting of learning activities, monitors adherence to mandatory training requirements, and proactively identifies opportunities to improve learning strategies and employee engagement.
- Failure to implement and track required training programs could result in compliance risks and negatively impact the University’s operations and reputation.
- No budget authority.
- Exercises judgment within Human Resources established procedures, University policy guidelines, and applicable laws and ethical standards.
- This is an in-person position with limited remote work permitted only with prior approval.
- Primary office location is the Forest Grove campus, with consistent service or presence on the Hillsboro campus.
- Maintains a standard 40-hour work week; requires supervisor approval for overtime.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in human resources, training and development, or a related field is preferred.
- One (1) to two (2) years of training or related experience specifically coordinating or facilitating compliance-based training.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and HRIS (Paycom preferred); interest in AI platforms.

- Strong organizational, time-management, and follow-through skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in higher education or a similarly complex organizational environment.
- Demonstrated experience in needs assessment, curriculum design, program development, and evaluation.
- Experience with various training delivery methods, including in-person, online courses, and blended learning.
- Proficiency in using learning management systems (LMS), LinkedIn Learning, Vector Solutions, Moodle, and other training technologies.
- HRIS software experience (Paycom).
- SHRM-CP.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, particularly Spanish.
- Experience contributing to assessment or continuous improvement efforts.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work Setting: Full-time, in-person, on-site position based on the Forest Grove campus, with occasional travel to the Hillsboro campus as needed.
- Schedule Expectations: Standard weekday hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.), with occasional evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities.
- Travel Requirements: Minimal; ability to travel between Pacific University campuses as needed.
- Physical Requirements: Primarily sedentary office work with some lifting up to 20 pounds. Regular communication, computer use, and use of standard office technology are required, with or without reasonable accommodation.
