Montessori Elementary Level & Aftercare Assistant
Are you interested in supporting independence and joyful engagement in the elementary child or learning about a child-centered approach to education? Do you have experience with Montessori or caring for elementary children? Pacific Crest School is looking for the right person to help support our elementary program in the coming school year.
Position Details:
This is a 3/4 time, year-round position that qualifies for full benefits. Typical hours are 11:30 am - 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The Elementary Level & Aftercare Assistant’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
Regular Position Duties:
- Supporting our Elementary classrooms during class time, lunch, recess and individual reading
- Assisting in the Elementary after-school program for approximately 20-25 children, including overseeing crafts, small group projects and outdoor play as well as maintenance of the physical environment
- There may be an occasional need to chaperone elementary students on small group outings to the library or local stores (trips may include driving a school van, riding buses, or walking)
- Participating in periodic outdoor activities including trips to local parks and various daylong outings during school breaks
- Cultivating a safe and respectful social environment
- Ensuring the physical/emotional safety and well-being of the children
- Care of the environment and materials, including cleaning, simple repair and replacement
- Modeling integrity, curiosity, and respect for all community members
- Attendance at staff meetings and trainings, as required
Requirements:
- Experience caring for children 6 - 12 years old
- Reliable and responsible
- Ability to engage in work that requires periods of 3-4 hours without use of a personal phone or other digital communication device
- Proficiency and comfort driving large 10 passenger van
- Ability to: lift 50 pounds, and walk, hike, and stand for long periods of time, including outside for 1-2 hours, rain or shine.
Obtainable upon hire:
- Enrollment in Washington State’s MERIT online professional registry and background check clearance
- Current CPR & First Aid certification, Food Handler permit, Blood Borne Pathogens training
- Proof of negative tuberculosis test & proof of MMR vaccine or measles immunity & proof of Covid immunization
- 30-hour Child Care Basics online training, to be com
The Ideal Candidate:
- Has an interest in learning about child development about implementing Montessori approaches to foster independence & joy
- Has Montessori, experiential education or nannying experience with children ages 6 to 12
- Has experience with outdoor education
- Is an excellent communicator with children and co-workers in a warm, compassionate, empathetic, and confident manner
- Has gentle but firm group management skills, exhibiting patience, clarity, calmness, kindness, and positive behavior guidance
- Is creative and has experience leading children in crafts, arts, cooking, games, etc.
- Has a joyful, creative, and adventurous disposition and a desire to support the independent work of the children and to work collaboratively as part of a cohesive team
