Overview

Schedule: Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm. Flexible to work some evenings and weekends as needed.

Pay Range

$21.86 - $26.89

Job Summary

  • Coordinates the development of a strength-based relationships with youth, their caregivers, support persons, and other wraparound team and community members.
  • Models how to implement positive behavior change through the creation of behavioral strategies that will support stabilization in the home and community.
  • Does whatever it takes to meet the needs of the family in a strength-based approach while also preserving the family unit.
  • Assists in transitioning kids to the lowest level of care.
  • Provides staff with morale building, leadership development, role modeling, and overall support to the program to ensure that needs are met for families and each other.
  • Building on Family Specialist I/II responsibilities the Family Specialist III continues to demonstrate a high level of creativity and strength-based interactions with colleagues and families alike.
  • Works independently in families' home and a variety of community and/or treatment settings. This position works directly with children and adults at times and locations that are convenient to them.
  • The Family Specialist III position will provide direct service by implementing behavior plans and fostering productive relationships through a range of activities with youth and/or their caregivers.
  • Under supervision the Family Specialist III also assists with activities within their scope of practice and training including but not limited to Functional Behavioral Analysis, facilitating Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings, completing Core Evaluation Data Elements (CEDE), and writing of the Individual Child and Family Plans for assigned families.
  • Under the clinical supervision of a Facilitator or Clinical Program Manager, Family Specialist IIs will provide input to Assessment, Child and Adolescents Needs and Strengths (CANS), and Treatment plan documents.
  • All activities related to diagnoses (including the assessment and treatment plan documents) are the responsibility of the clinical supervisor, not the Family Specialist III.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates mastery of responsibilities and duties of the Family Specialist I and II job descriptions.
  • Provides direct billable mental health services, documents those activities in alignment with MediCal regulations, and achieves set productivity expectations.
  • Coaches and mentors others in the agency's service delivery principles and other concepts including functional behavior analysis, safety planning, and engagement processes.
  • Teaches others how to utilize strengths of children, families, and others to assist in the implementation and achievement of goals and outcomes.
  • Identifies and develops community resources, established relationships with community partners and leads groups activities in the service of children and families.
  • Mentors, coaches and trains other Family Specialists.
  • Coaches others on how to engage caregivers in building youth specific parenting responses that support positive behavior change and overall family relationships.
  • Documents interactions and services while simultaneously maintaining individual expectations and providing documentation coaching to others.
  • Provides leadership in developing program responses to needs identified across a number of youth and families where natural community resources are not available or appropriate.
  • Facilitates CFT meetings, completes FBA's, CEDE and ICFP's as needed.
  • Provides input into Assessments, Tx plans, and CANS under the supervision of a Facilitator or CPM.
  • Position specific duties and responsibilities may very depending upon program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field and (4) four or more years of relevant experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience to include:
  • Minimum of (4) four years of experience providing family-centered support services in behavioral health, child welfare, or community-based settings.
  • Proven ability to engage and support families with complex needs, including those impacted by trauma, poverty, or system involvement.
  • Experience facilitating family meetings, supporting case planning, and coordinating multidisciplinary services.
  • Strong knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and culturally responsive practices.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with documentation standards, service coordination, and electronic health record systems.
  • Bilingual/bicultural skills may be preferred depending on program needs.
  • CPR, First Aid, or crisis intervention certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, equity-focused, and strengths-based service delivery.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
