Job Overview
The Principal Sourcing Specialist is responsible for managing end-to-end procurement activities in a power generation environment. This includes sourcing critical equipment and services for plant operations, negotiating supplier agreements, and ensuring timely delivery of materials that support generation reliability and outage schedules.
This role also contributes to complex sourcing initiatives, cost optimization strategies, and process improvements, while mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert purchase requisitions into purchase orders ensuring competitive pricing and contract compliance
- Source and evaluate suppliers for plant materials, MRO (maintenance, repair & operations), and capital projects
- Lead RFQs/RFPs, perform bid analysis, and negotiate pricing and commercial terms
- Partner with plant operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to understand procurement needs
- Support sourcing for planned outages, emergency repairs, and major equipment replacements
- Coordinate with strategic sourcing teams on long-term agreements and supplier strategies
- Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules, and invoice resolution
- Maintain and manage blanket agreements and pricing catalogs
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Track cost savings, supplier KPIs, and procurement performance metrics
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across sourcing and procurement processes
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior sourcing/procurement staff
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of procurement/sourcing experience (preferably in industrial or energy environments)
- Strong negotiation, supplier management, and contract management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel required; Power BI preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field
- 5–7 years of sourcing experience in energy, utilities, manufacturing, or heavy industry
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP
- CPSM or equivalent supply chain certification
