Duration: 6 months (possible extension)

Domain: Oil & Gas / Directional Drilling / MWD

Pay Rate: $35–$45/hr on W2, depending on experience

Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Education: Minimum 2-year technical degree required

Experience: 3–5 years of direct field experience in a directional drilling/MWD service business within North American land operations

Work Environment

• Office-based position in Katy, TX.
• The role supports field operations and requires regular communication with customers and field personnel.
• The Command function supports a 24/7 operation, with scheduling potentially changing if the position converts to an FTE role.

Note: If converted to an FTE position, the schedule may change based on 24/7 operational requirements.

Job Summary

The Command Specialist provides direct technical support for ongoing equipment rental and sales activities. This position supports field operators by troubleshooting equipment-related issues remotely, documenting field activity, and escalating technical problems to the appropriate internal teams.

The role requires recent MWD experience, specifically Electromagnetic (EM) telemetry, along with strong technical troubleshooting, communication, and computer skills.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

• Provide direct technical support to customers operating MWD equipment in the field.
• Troubleshoot equipment and technical issues remotely and provide appropriate guidance.
• Escalate complex technical issues to the appropriate technical teams.
• Document equipment activity, field issues, and technical information in internal business systems.
• Collect, organize, and maintain information related to ongoing field operations.
• Consolidate field activity and equipment information for regular internal reporting.
• Communicate directly with customers regarding technical issues and equipment performance.
• Support rental and sales activities by providing timely technical information.
• Work collaboratively with internal technical and operational teams.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2-year technical degree.
• 3–5 years of direct field experience in MWD / Directional Drilling within North American land operations.
• Recent MWD experience with Electromagnetic (EM) telemetry within the last 3–5 years is required.
• Strong computer literacy.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Power BI or similar data-analysis tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Comfortable communicating directly with customers regarding technical issues.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with XEM and/or xBolt systems.
• Experience with other EM/MWD systems.
• Previous experience with major MWD service organizations.
• Familiarity with rotary steerable systems (RSS).
• Experience supporting MWD equipment remotely or from a technical command center.

Role Overview

The Command Center provides technical support for drilling equipment operated by external directional drilling service companies. The Command Specialist serves as a primary point of contact for field operators and provides remote technical assistance when equipment or operational issues arise.

This position requires someone who can quickly understand technical problems, communicate effectively with field personnel, document issues accurately, and escalate problems to the appropriate technical resources.

Strong MWD/EM telemetry experience is critical for this position.

Interview Process

• First-round interview preferably conducted virtually through Microsoft Teams.
• Likely two-round interview process.
