Position OverviewGauthier, Alvarado & Associates, a Northern Virginia Architectural/Engineering firm, is a multi-disciplined engineering firm in Fairfax, Virginia. We provide Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical engineering for a variety of projects that include commercial office buildings, educational facilities, public agencies, and interior tenant build-outs. GAA is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in project management as well as developing construction documents for HVAC, Mechanical, Plumbing and control systems. LEED certification is desirable. We are interested in candidates who are self-motivated, possess a great attitude and who will be a vital member of our firm working closely with our in-house Architects, structural and electrical engineers. The person will be involved in a variety of projects ranging throughout Virginia, Washington, DC, and Maryland. Candidates must be well-organized, clear communicators, and proficient in AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, Carrier HAP Program (or similar load estimating programs), Microsoft Word and Excel. This role will be performed out of the Fairfax, VA office 4 days a week with one remote day each week.Candidates must be current U.S. residents and legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application. We are unable to sponsor visas at this time.ResponsibilitiesFocus Area 1Review projects for interdisciplinary coordination and design completenessManage the mechanical engineering team, assign tasks, and oversee project workflowsPrepare mechanical and plumbing construction documents including drawings, specifications, and detailed system layoutsEnsure all designs comply with applicable building codes, standards, and sustainability requirementsProvide construction administration servicesQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited universityEIT certification required; PE license preferred or in process of obtainingLEED certification is desirableMinimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical design for commercial, educational, and government facility projects and have demonstrated project management experience in building systems and constructionHands-on experience with construction documents, writing specifications, and understanding building codesStrong knowledge of HVAC system design including air and hydronic distribution, refrigeration systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and building controlsExperience with plumbing system design and analysisConstruction observation experience is preferredWorking knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and industry design standardsProficiency in AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, Carrier HAP (or similar load calculation programs), and Microsoft OfficeExcellent communication, organization, and writing skillsAbility to work from the Fairfax, VA office 4 days per week with one remote day
Salary : $100,000 - $130,000
