SUMMARY
The Director of Development will provide the leadership, strategic direction, management, and coordination for all of Ozone House’s fundraising efforts. The Director of Development will develop relationships with community members, including supporters, donors, elected officials, partners, and neighbors to advance the mission of Ozone House, meet and/or exceed annual fundraising goals in collaboration with Board and Committee members, cultivate existing and new donors to build the major gifts program, and build and supervise Ozone House’s development team to meet the agency's growth objectives.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field OR 7+ years directly related experience
Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) (preferred)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
7+ years of experience in non-profit fund development, with a documented track record of growing a major gifts program
2+ years of supervisory experience
Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to solicit and establish mutually beneficial relationships with potential donors
Ability to work independently to establish strategies, work priorities, direct the work of others, problem solve, take initiative, and exercise good judgment
Successfully created & implemented strategies within budget & timing requirements; ability to navigate both the strategic and tactical elements of the role in a hands-on environment with finite resources
Adeptness at planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking, organizing, and following through while remaining highly energetic and focused
Proven experience engaging with diverse identities, including intersecting identities of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic background and sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression
Commitment to best practices including Leadership, Positive Youth Development, Harm-Reduction, Housing First and Trauma Informed approaches
Work requires effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate teams to produce quality work within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects; ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Comprehensive understanding of fund development principles, donor cultivation, stewardship, and planned giving strategies
Strong knowledge of nonprofit fundraising compliance, IRS regulations, and ethical standards
Demonstrated success in grant and proposal writing/reporting, prospecting, securing funds and following up with donors and funders with effectiveness and timeliness
Understanding of donor database systems (the agency uses Bloomerang) and CRM analytics
Ability to analyze donor data and financial reports to inform strategies
Strategic storytelling and case statement development
Build and sustain relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and elected officials
Manage multiple fundraising initiatives simultaneously under deadlines
Adapt to changing funding landscapes with creativity and resilience
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Fund Development & Donor Stewardship
Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan that includes major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundations, planned giving, and grassroots donor campaigns
Establish and maintain effective donor stewardship strategies, including timely acknowledgment, personalized follow-up, and impact reporting
Manage the donor database to ensure accuracy, segmentation, and informed decision-making
Design and oversee annual giving campaigns, Giving Tuesday efforts, and special appeals
Conduct donor and funder research and increase unrestricted funds by researching, recruiting, and developing relationships with individual, foundation and corporate supporters
Solicit and close gifts and ensure appropriate stewardship of major donors
Grants & Foundation Relations
Lead identification, cultivation, and stewardship of foundation funders
Oversee grant calendar, proposal development, and compliance
Partner with program staff to align proposals with organizational priorities and outcomes
Corporate & In-Kind Partnerships
Develop and maintain relationships with corporate partners for sponsorships, employee giving, and event support
Build an in-kind donations strategy that meets client and program needs (food, clothing, hygiene supplies, etc.)
Marketing & Communications
Direct communications strategy to elevate the Ozone House brand across digital, print, and media platforms
Lead creation of the annual report, ensuring accurate data, compelling stories, and donor recognition
Oversee content for newsletters, press releases, and social media campaigns in coordination with development team
Represent Ozone House publicly with media, community partners, and elected officials
Leadership & Supervision
Supervise, coach, and evaluate development staff, ensuring regular supervision and professional development
Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board Development Committee to engage Board members in fundraising
Serve as part of the Executive Leadership Team contributing to agency-wide planning and decision-making
General Expectations
Be familiar with and use the NASW Code of Ethics and Ozone House policies and procedures, and other regulatory/governing bodies to guide practice and decision making
Maintains individual credentials and participation in education and training as necessary to maintain current competency in skill areas necessary to perform job duties
Represent Ozone House at community events and conduct oneself in an ethical, mature and professional manner with honesty and integrity, welcoming clients, coworkers and other stakeholders with dignity and respect
Attend agency committees and community meetings and provide agency leadership as assigned
