Job Overview

The Airfield and Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of airport facilities, grounds, and airfield infrastructure. This position supervises the daily activities of the maintenance department while actively participating in maintenance operations. Responsibilities include airfield inspections, preventive maintenance, facility upkeep, coordination of contractors and vendors, and ensuring compliance with applicable FAA, state, and local regulations.

This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe, functional, and professional airport environment for tenants, passengers, and airport users.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in the daily operations of the airport maintenance department.
  • Maintain airport facilities, grounds, equipment, and airfield infrastructure including runways, taxiways, lighting systems, signage, fencing, airport fuel program, and terminal or support buildings.
  • Conduct routine airfield inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance projects and contractors.
  • Lead and coordinate snow and ice removal operations to maintain safe and continuous airfield operations during winter weather events.
  • Maintain records related to inspections, maintenance activities, equipment servicing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with purchasing maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Support compliance with FAA regulations, airport minimum standards, safety programs, and environmental requirements.
  • Respond to after-hours maintenance or operational emergencies as needed.
  • Operate maintenance vehicles, tools, and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist airport administration with planning and budgeting for maintenance and capital improvement projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or college coursework in facilities maintenance, construction, electrical systems, HVAC, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in facility maintenance, airfield maintenance, public works, construction, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, diagrams, and construction plans.
  • Basic computer skills including email, spreadsheets, and maintenance recordkeeping.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required airport security badges or certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working at an airport or within a regulated operational environment.
  • Familiarity with FAA airport operations and safety standards.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials as required.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, or emergency call-outs when necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary and benefits are dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
