Position Description

The Superintendent is responsible for leading the day-to-day execution of construction projects in the field, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project plans and company standards. As the primary leader on the jobsite, this role oversees field operations, drives schedule execution, coordinates subcontractors, and maintains quality control from start to finish. Working closely with the Project Manager—who leads financial, contractual, and client-facing aspects—the Superintendent owns production, sequencing, and jobsite performance, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high standard of quality.

Responsibilities

Field Execution

• Direct daily field operations and jobsite activities
• Coordinate labor and subcontractor work in place
• Ensure construction progresses according to plans and specifications
• Identify and resolve field issues in real time

Schedule Management

• Develop and maintain look-ahead schedules
• Sequence work and coordinate trade activities
• Monitor progress against the project schedule
• Identify delays and implement recovery plans

Subcontractor Coordination

• Coordinate subcontractor activities and site presence
• Lead daily and weekly coordination meetings
• Ensure work aligns with scope, schedule, and expectations
• Hold subcontractors accountable for performance and productivity

Design Coordination

• Coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants
• Oversee RFIs and submittals (with project engineer support)
• Resolve design issues and maintain alignment between design and field

Quality Control

• Inspect work in place for compliance with plans and specifications
• Identify and correct deficiencies
• Communicate quality expectations to subcontractors
• Manage punch lists and support project closeout

Safety Management

• Enforce company safety policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and regulatory requirements
• Lead safety meetings and ongoing training
• Maintain a safe and organized jobsite

Site Management

• Manage site setup, organization, and overall logistics
• Coordinate material deliveries and equipment usage
• Interface with inspectors and local authorities
• Ensure permits and site requirements are maintained

• Subcontractors are organized and accountable
• Quality is high with minimal rework

Qualifications

• 7 years of experience in commercial construction, with strong field leadership experience
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related field preferred, but not required
• Proven ability to lead jobsite operations on ground-up or large-scale projects
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and field coordination
• Experience managing subcontractors and multiple trades simultaneously
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Working knowledge of construction scheduling tools and field technology
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• High level of organization, accountability, and attention to detail
