Position Description

The Accounting Manager oversees the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions at Overland Group, including general ledger management, month-end close, property accounting, payroll, and cash management. This role is responsible for producing accurate and timely financial information across the company’s development, construction, and property management entities and works closely with internal teams including Development, Construction, and Asset Management to ensure accurate and consistent financial information across projects and operating assets.

This position reports to the Director of Finance and manages a small accounting team. In addition to core accounting responsibilities, the role serves as a generalist resource for HR and payroll administration and assists the Asset Management function with property-level reporting and analysis. Because the accounting function operates with a small team, the role offers broad exposure and significant ownership across the business. The ideal candidate is a hands-on manager who demonstrates grit, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and thrives in a small team environment where initiative, follow-through, and collaboration are essential.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions across Overland Group’s development, construction, and property management entities
  • Manage the month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and intercompany transactions
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting packages for leadership review
  • Supervise, train, and develop a small team of accounting staff
  • Oversee property accounting, including property-level financial statements, budgets, and owner reporting
  • Manage company-wide cash, including monitoring account balances, forecasting cash needs, and coordinating transfers and draw requests
  • Process and oversee payroll, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable requirements
  • Administer general HR functions, including onboarding, benefits administration, and employee recordkeeping
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor payments and billing
  • Assist the Asset Management function with property performance reporting, budget versus actual reviews, and variance analysis
  • Support investor distributions and capital contribution tracking in coordination with Asset Management
  • Coordinate with external CPAs and support tax filings, audits, and lender and investor reporting requirements
  • Review loan agreements and monitor ongoing compliance with lender covenants and reporting obligations
  • Review insurance policies across company properties to ensure required coverage is maintained
  • Maintain and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation
  • Maintain organized financial records and support ad hoc analysis and special projects as directed by the Director of Finance

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates the company’s core values of grit, team-player, and ownership, including a willingness to take initiative, support team success, and take responsibility for delivering high-quality work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience; real estate, construction, or property accounting experience a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize complex financial information
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and the ability to take ownership of responsibilities without constant direction
  • Comfortable working in a small team environment with a high degree of responsibility and autonomy
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and full-cycle accounting, including month-end close and financial statement preparation
  • Prior supervisory or team-lead experience preferred
  • Experience with payroll processing and general HR administration a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting or ERP software
