About Us:

We are a leading operator of Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) and Long-Term Care communities across a multi-state footprint. Our mission is to provide exceptional care and a safe, comfortable environment for residents, supported by strong, well-maintained physical campuses. We are seeking an experienced and relationship-driven Director of Special Projects to lead our Capital Expenditures (CapEx) and Renovations initiatives and oversee Physical Plant Operations across our portfolio.

Position Overview:

The Director of Special Projects is responsible for the planning, management, and successful execution of all major CapEx, renovation, and plant operation initiatives. This leader will work closely with executive leadership, regional and local operations teams, maintenance leadership, and external partners to ensure projects are aligned with business goals, regulatory compliance, and high standards for resident experience and safety. This is a critical role for someone who knows the SNF/long-term care industry, understands the operational impact of well-run facilities, and can build trusted relationships across multiple levels of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage CapEx projects, major renovations, and physical plant improvements across a multi-state portfolio of SNFs and long-term care facilities.
  • Develop and maintain a multi-year CapEx plan in alignment with corporate objectives and operational needs.
  • Partner with local, regional, and corporate teams to assess physical plant priorities, define project scopes, and establish project budgets and timelines.
  • Oversee vendors, contractors, architects, and consultants to ensure quality outcomes, cost control, and adherence to timelines.
  • Maintain strong relationships with facility administrators, maintenance leaders, and nursing leadership to ensure facility upgrades support both resident care and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor compliance with life safety, building codes, ADA, and state/federal regulatory requirements for facility projects.
  • Manage vendor selection and contract negotiations in partnership with legal and procurement teams.
  • Lead plant operations standardization initiatives and provide leadership guidance to on-site maintenance teams.
  • Serve as a liaison with state and federal agencies on facility-related matters impacting CapEx and renovations.
  • Provide executive leadership with regular updates on project status, financial performance, and risk mitigation.
  • Travel regularly to project sites across the portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience managing CapEx, renovations, and/or plant operations for a portfolio of SNFs, long-term care, healthcare, or related facilities.
  • Strong understanding of the business operations of SNFs and long-term care, including how physical plant and environment impact resident care and compliance.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships across clinical, operational, and corporate teams.
  • Experience in managing large, multi-state project portfolios, including budget development and control.
  • Deep understanding of life safety, ADA, and regulatory requirements impacting SNFs and long-term care.
  • Ability to manage vendors, contractors, and consultants with an emphasis on accountability, performance, and quality.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to present to senior leadership and boards.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently across states.

Preferred:

  • Experience with multi-site facility management within the SNF or healthcare industry.
  • Knowledge of plant operations best practices in healthcare environments.
