What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sales & Business Development Specialist position at Outdoor Elements?
Sales & Business Development Specialist
Outdoor Elements β St George, Utah
Full-Time
Outdoor Elements is looking for a highly motivated Sales & Business Development Specialist to help grow our business both locally and nationwide.
We design and manufacture high-end outdoor products including custom fire pits, outdoor kitchens, water features, planters, pergolas, benches, and other custom outdoor products.
We are looking for a strong salesperson and relationship builder who isn't afraid to pick up the phone, develop new accounts, follow up consistently, visit customers, and turn opportunities into long-term relationships.
This is not an order-taking sales position. We want someone who actively creates business.
What You'll Do
Your primary responsibility is to generate opportunities and close sales.
You will:
- Develop new customers locally and throughout the United States.
- Prospect and reach out to landscape contractors, landscape architects, architects, designers, builders, developers, pool contractors, and other potential partners.
- Build relationships with existing Outdoor Elements customers and increase repeat business.
- Respond quickly and professionally to inbound leads.
- Consistently follow up on proposals, opportunities, and past customers.
- Conduct phone, video, showroom, and in-person sales meetings.
- Visit jobsites and customer locations when appropriate.
- Understand what the customer is trying to accomplish and help guide them toward the right solution.
- Work with our design, estimating, engineering, and production teams to move opportunities from initial conversation through proposal and sale.
- Maintain an organized sales pipeline and clearly document next steps.
- Follow projects through the sales process rather than simply sending a quote and waiting for the customer to respond.
- Develop relationships that generate repeat projects rather than one-time transactions.
- Create estimates to send to customers.
Become a Product Expert
You don't need to arrive knowing everything about fire features, outdoor kitchens, water features, pergolas, or metal fabrication.
But you must be willing and able to learn quickly.
Our customers often have technical questions, and we expect our salespeople to develop enough product and construction knowledge to answer most questions confidently and recognize when our technical team needs to become involved.
You will develop working knowledge of:
- Outdoor kitchen design and layout
- Fire features
- Water features and basic water-system principles
- Pergolas and shade structures
- Planters and architectural products
- Materials and finishes
- Metal fabrication
- Installation requirements
- Basic grading and elevations
- Construction terminology and methods
- Product capabilities and limitations
The goal is not to turn you into an engineer. The goal is for customers and contractors to recognize that you understand what you're selling.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- A proven salesperson with a strong drive to win business.
- Comfortable prospecting and developing new accounts.
- Confident making outbound calls and initiating conversations.
- Excellent at building and maintaining relationships.
- Persistent with follow-up without being pushy.
- Professional and comfortable working with high-end homeowners, contractors, architects, designers, and business owners.
- Technically curious and capable of learning complex products.
- Organized and disciplined about maintaining a sales pipeline.
- Comfortable discussing projects worth thousands or tens of thousands of dollars.
- Able to listen carefully and uncover what a customer actually needs.
- Able to communicate clearly with both customers and our internal technical team.
- Motivated by goals, accountability, and measurable results.
Experience That Would Be Especially Valuable
Experience selling within any of these industries would be a strong advantage:
- Landscape construction
- Outdoor living
- Pools and water features
- Architectural products
- Building materials
- Commercial or residential construction
- Custom fabrication
- Kitchen or cabinetry
- High-end residential products
- Contractor or dealer sales
- Architecture and design
Industry experience is valuable, but strong sales ability, initiative, and the ability to learn technical products are more important.
This Position Is For Someone Who...
Doesn't wait for the phone to ring.
You see a landscape company doing great projects and think, "Why aren't they buying from us?"
You see an architect specifying custom outdoor products and figure out how to introduce Outdoor Elements.
You follow up when other salespeople would have given up.
You learn our products well enough to have intelligent conversations with contractors and designers.
And when a customer has a complicated project, you know how to bring the right Outdoor Elements people into the conversation and keep the opportunity moving forward.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means:
More qualified opportunities.
More new customers.
More repeat customers.
A consistently managed sales pipeline.
Strong customer relationships.
And profitable sales growth for Outdoor Elements.
If you're a driven salesperson who enjoys developing relationships, learning technical products, and turning opportunities into real projects, we'd like to meet you.
