What are the responsibilities and job description for the Java Developer - Financial Experience - Onsite - Brooklyn, OH - W2 - JOBID759 position at Outcome Logix ( A Tech 50 Finalist company 2025 and 2022, by Pittsburgh Technology Council )?
We are seeking a Java Developer to design, build, enhance, and support secure, scalable enterprise applications for a financial services environment. This role will focus on backend development using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, Oracle Database, and microservices architecture. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can work independently on well-defined features, collaborate with business and technology stakeholders, and contribute to reliable, maintainable solutions that support critical business workflows. This position is well suited for a developer who has solid backend engineering experience, understands enterprise application delivery, and is comfortable working across the full software development lifecycle. Familiarity with Angular is a plus, especially for teams that occasionally support or coordinate with frontend application components.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications and microservices using Spring Boot and related Spring frameworks.
· Build and enhance RESTful APIs that support enterprise business processes and service-to-service integrations.
· Develop backend business logic, data access layers, and integration components using Java, Spring Boot, and Oracle Database.
· Write clean, maintainable, secure, and testable code aligned with team standards and enterprise engineering practices.
· Work with Oracle SQL, database schemas, stored procedures, indexes, constraints, query optimization, and transaction handling to support data quality and performance.
· Participate in application design discussions, API contract definition, technical documentation, code reviews, and implementation planning.
· Troubleshoot application issues across development, test, and production environments, including root-cause analysis, defect resolution, and performance tuning. · Support application reliability, availability, monitoring, logging, and operational readiness for financial services systems.
· Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, architects, and other developers to deliver business value through iterative development.
· Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily standups, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives.
· Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve code quality, automation, performance, supportability, and delivery efficiency. · Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
· Familiarity with Angular or other modern frontend frameworks, with the ability to understand UI/API interactions and collaborate effectively with frontend developers. · Experience in banking, lending, payments, risk, compliance, or broader financial services technology environments.
· Experience with Spring Security, OAuth/OIDC, JWT, API gateways, or enterprise authentication and authorization patterns.
· Experience with containerized or cloud-native deployment environments such as Kubernetes, GCP, or similar platforms.
· Familiarity with messaging or event-driven patterns using technologies such as Kafka, IBM MQ, or similar tools.
· Experience with observability tools such as Elastic, Grafana, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, or similar monitoring/logging platforms.
· Exposure to DevOps practices, automated deployment pipelines, environment configuration, and release management.
· Understanding of performance tuning for Java services, REST APIs, and Oracle SQL queries.
· Experience contributing to technical documentation, API specifications, operational runbooks, and production-support knowledge bases.
· Awareness of regulated-environment expectations, including auditability, traceability, access control, data protection, and change-management discipline.
Financial Services Expectations
The successful candidate should understand that financial services applications often support high-value business processes and sensitive customer or transactional data. This role requires an engineering mindset that prioritizes:
· Reliability: Building services that are stable, observable, and supportable in production.
· Performance: Designing APIs and database interactions that can scale with business needs.
· Security: Applying secure coding practices and supporting vulnerability remediation.
· Data integrity: Protecting accuracy, consistency, and completeness of financial and customer data.
· Regulatory awareness: Working carefully in environments where controls, auditability, and change discipline matter.
· Business collaboration: Partnering effectively with product owners, analysts, operations, risk, compliance, and technology teams.
· Ownership: Taking responsibility for assigned features from design through implementation, testing, deployment support, and issue resolution.
