Time Required: 30-40 hours per week for 46 weeks
Job Summary:
Our Shepherd Church, School and Childcare is a congregation in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Our mission is to gather, nurture and serve because Jesus loves. The Preschool Assistant works in the Preschool Department. The Preschool Assistant works with children between ages of 2.5 and 5, helping them develop, social, emotional and cognitive skills through play-based learning activities.
Supervision:
The Preschool Assistant reports to the Preschool Lead Teacher. The job has no supervisory responsible.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Care of Children:
- Provide physical, social and emotional care of children including handwashing, toilet coaching or assistance, meal and snack preparation, rest time, games, projects and activities
- Maintain current knowledge of all children’s names, personal requirements, allergies and guardian information
- Provide and maintain positive discipline practices to maintain a safe caring and consistent classroom environment
- Encourage and model how to positively and safety interact with others
- Maintain State mandated staff/student ratios at all times
- Greet families with eye contact, a greeting & smile when entering or leaving the classroom
2. Support Classroom Teacher and Staff:
- Support the teacher’s teaching and student learning
- If the teacher needs to step away, step in and help lead the classroom
- Communicate with teacher anytime leaving the classroom
3. Support Administration Staff:
- Strive for professional and positive interactions
- Inform administration of maintenance, cleaning, building or equipment needs
- Communicate all schedule changes (staff and/or children) to administration
4. Care for Space Utilized:
- Assist with daily activities (opening/closing procedures, schedules & routines)
- Maintain a clean environment and aid with sanitation responsibilities
- Model and demonstrate for children how to properly care and use all class materials
- Keep classroom and spaces used by children safe, clean, well maintained & presentable
- Monitor & care for supplies & equipment and notify the teacher of repairs or replacement
5. Attend staff meetings and school functions
4. Complete annual required clock training hours (available online and on demand)
6. Job involves the execution of polices or instructions from supervisor
7. Job involves planning of routine operations for job tasks
8. Frequent contact with children, other employees and parents
Physical Demands:
The employee operates a tablet and copier/printer. Daily activities include lifting, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, sitting, prolong standing and prolong visual concentration, and occasionally climbing and crawling.
Education Qualifications:
- Minimum: Be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma
- Preferred: First Aid and CPR certified and CDA or Associate in early childhood education, child development or child related field
Experience Qualifications:
- Minimum: Up to 1 year working with children is required
- Preferred: experience working with children between age 2.5 and 5
