Role Description The Respiratory Therapist is a full-time, on-site role located in Ottumwa, IA, responsible for delivering safe, effective respiratory care to patients across the lifespan. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing patients’ cardiopulmonary status, performing diagnostic tests, initiating and managing oxygen and ventilator therapy, and administering prescribed respiratory treatments. The role involves collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other clinical professionals to develop and adjust care plans, monitoring patient responses, and documenting all services in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements. The Respiratory Therapist may provide specialized care in areas such as neonatal and intensive care units, educate patients and families on respiratory health and equipment use, and support emergency response situations, including code and rapid response events. Participation in quality improvement, equipment maintenance checks, and ongoing professional development is also expected.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency in Respiratory Therapy and Respiratory Care, including assessment, treatment planning, and delivery of therapy.
• Strong understanding of Cardiopulmonary physiology and Medicine as it relates to respiratory and critical care environments.
• Experience or training in Neonatal Intensive Care or other high-acuity settings is highly preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program; active state licensure or eligibility for licensure in Iowa.
• Current BLS certification; ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications preferred or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, communicate clearly with patients and colleagues, and adapt to fast-paced clinical settings.
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and time-management skills, with attention to safety and infection control standards.
• Prior hospital-based respiratory therapy experience is beneficial, especially in emergency, ICU, or specialty care units.
