Primary Function
The Senior Unified Communications Engineer will play a key role in a large-scale migration from legacy on-prem PBX phone systems and Zoom Phone sites to Microsoft Teams Phone. This role will focus primarily on Teams Phone setup, administration, migration support, and enterprise voice troubleshooting across various locations.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Teams Phone in an enterprise environment, along with a background supporting PBX and/or Zoom Phone environments. This person will help coordinate site migrations, resolve technical issues, document standards, and support the transition to a modern cloud-based voice platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and help execute the migration from legacy PBX and Zoom Phone environments to Microsoft Teams Phone.
- Configure, administer, and troubleshoot Microsoft Teams Phone services.
- Coordinate site-by-site migration activities across multiple North American locations.
- Review existing PBX, Zoom Phone, carrier, and site voice configurations to support migration planning.
- Support user, number, device, policy, call routing, and voice configuration readiness.
- Troubleshoot Teams Phone issues related to calling, routing, provisioning, voice quality, and cutover activities.
- Partner with internal IT teams, business site contacts, vendors, and carriers to support migration execution.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex voice and unified communications issues.
- Develop and maintain documentation, standards, migration procedures, and support processes.
- Assist with post-migration stabilization and ongoing Teams Phone support.
- Support broader unified communications services, including voice, conferencing, collaboration, and mobility platforms, as needed.
- Participate in on-call rotation and off-hours support for priority migration or production issues.
- Provide guidance and knowledge transfer to support teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 8 years of experience supporting enterprise voice, telecom, or unified communications environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Teams Phone setup and administration.
- Experience supporting or participating in Teams Phone migrations, cloud voice migrations, or enterprise voice modernization initiatives.
- Experience with legacy PBX environments.
- Experience troubleshooting enterprise voice issues, including call routing, number assignment, user provisioning, policies, devices, and voice quality.
- Ability to coordinate technical work across multiple sites, teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using IT ticketing systems.
- Familiarity with ITIL service management concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience migrating from legacy PBX systems to Microsoft Teams Phone.
- Experience with Zoom Phone administration, support, or migration.
- Experience with SIP, PRI, T1, POTS, carrier services, number porting, and telecom vendor coordination.
- Experience with Direct Routing, Operator Connect, Microsoft Calling Plans, or Session Border Controllers.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and related cloud UC integrations.
- Experience with Visio, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documentation and reporting.
- Experience supporting mobile device management platforms, cellular programs, or telephone expense management services.
