About Us

Otter Creek Bakery is a local bakery and café in Middlebury, Vermont, serving fresh pastries, baked goods, breakfast, sandwiches, deli items, and coffee. We're looking for a dependable, hardworking, and adaptable team member who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is willing to jump in wherever needed.

About the Position

We're hiring for a full-time position averaging 40 hours per week, as well as part-time opportunities based on business needs.

This is a hands-on, cross-functional position working across bakery production, deli preparation, and front-of-house café service. We're looking for someone who is eager to learn, comfortable taking on different responsibilities, and willing to help wherever the team needs support.

Our store is open Monday through Sunday, 7:00 AM–2:00 PM. Weekend availability will be required as needed, and scheduling will depend on business needs.

You don't need to be an expert in every department on day one, but you must be willing to learn all three and take pride in doing each job well.

Responsibilities

Bakery & Food Preparation

• Assist with baking, pastry preparation, and daily production.
• Prepare ingredients, follow recipes, and maintain consistent product quality.
• Help with food preparation, stocking, and keeping the kitchen organized.

Deli & Sandwich Preparation

• Prepare sandwiches, breakfast items, and other menu offerings.
• Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked food preparation areas.
• Follow food safety and sanitation standards.

Front of House & Café Service

• Welcome customers and provide friendly, efficient service.
• Take orders, operate the POS system, and process payments.
• Prepare coffee and other beverages.
• Restock displays and maintain a clean, welcoming café.
• Assist with opening and closing duties.

Team Support

• Move between departments as business needs change.
• Communicate effectively and help coworkers during busy periods.
• Learn new skills and take initiative without always needing direction.

What We're Looking For

• Dependable, punctual, and motivated.
• Friendly and comfortable interacting with customers.
• Willing and able to learn bakery, deli, and front-of-house responsibilities.
• Able to multitask, stay organized, and work efficiently in a busy environment.
• Comfortable standing for extended periods and lifting typical bakery and kitchen supplies.
• Available to work weekends as needed.
• A team player who takes ownership of their work and helps wherever needed.
• Previous bakery, café, restaurant, deli, or customer service experience is a plus, but a positive attitude and willingness to learn are just as important.
