Under the general supervision of a Mental Health Program Coordinator, supervises the daily operation of the agency’s Crisis Team. Supervises a team of mental health clinicians engaged in the delivery of clinical, community-behavioral services related to crisis intervention and stabilization services, jail services, and inpatient and crisis residential pre-screening.

This is a full-time, benefited position working out of the James Street Complex at 12265 James Street, Holland, MI  49424. Typical working hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Participates in the hiring, management, training and evaluation of clinical staff.
  2. Provides regular supervision and team meetings for all staff to ensure adherence to quality services.  
  3. Ensures that the daily operations of the site or service unit and the delivery of services to consumers comply with standard operating policies and procedures for the operation of community mental health services, ensuring that all services and activities comply with Title X, Michigan Mental Health Code (PA 258 of 1974), Michigan Department of Community Health rules and regulations, and CARF accreditation rules, regulations and requirements.
  4. Supervises and participates in the implementation of quality assurance and quality control protocols to ensure continuous improvement in the delivery of behavioral services to customers.
  5. Supervises and participates in the application of evaluation instruments to assess the effectiveness of behavioral health services.
  6. Assists staff in responding to recipient rights issues in accordance with Chapter 7 of the Michigan Mental Health Code and MDCH Rule 325, Sec. 1430- 14306.
  7. Ensures that all team members comply with training and continuing education requirements for maintenance of licenses and accreditation.
  8. May provide direct services as needed.
  9. Acts as liaison for area emergency departments to provide consultation and collaboration on complex cases. 
  10. Serves as an advocate for greater access to affordable, quality mental health care for the target population.
  11. Ensures proper documentation of all consumer contacts and treatment.
  12. Participates in the Local Appeal process as an agency representative.
  13. Accepts and participates in special assignments as requested.        
  14. Helps support an equitable, safe, diverse and inclusive workplace.
  15. Other duties as assigned. 

Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or related mental health field with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is preferred. Lived experiences with mental illness or substance use disorders are valued.

Licenses and Certifications: 

Must possess or obtain State of Michigan licensure or certification (LLP, LMSW, LPC, etc.) Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) or Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) credential strongly preferred. Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license is required.

Required Knowledge and Skills: 

  1. Good working knowledge of the principles and practices of community-based mental health services.
  2. Good working knowledge of crisis theory and principles of effective crisis response.
  3. Good working knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  4. Thorough working knowledge of the principles and practices of social work, psychology, and the treatment of individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  5. Thorough knowledge of the principles of recovery, community integration, and maximized independence.
  6. Good working knowledge of relevant Evidence-Based Practices, relevant to specific target populations.
  7. Thorough working knowledge of psychopathology, as appropriate to the target population.
  8. Thorough working knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical assessment and diagnosis, and the DSM-5 criteria.
  9. Thorough working knowledge of local, state and federal health codes, statutes, rules and regulations, including Title X, HIPAA, Michigan Mental Health Code (PA 258 of 1974, as amended), Michigan Public Health Code For Psychologists (Act 368 of 1978, Part 182), MDCH Rule 325, Sec. 1430-14306, and CARF accreditation rules, regulations and standards.
  10. Thorough working knowledge of MDCH accreditation requirements and behavioral health care practitioner licensing requirements.
