What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator position at OTR Engineered Solutions?
A CNC Operator, or CNC Machinist, oversees operating the computer numerical control (CNC) machine. They produce machined parts according to established parameters and specifications. A CNC Operator also calibrates all machines to their proper operating levels. Follow all site health and safety regulations and a strong work ethic and attention to detail are essential.
Essential Functions:

1. Using the CNC machines: Mostly Bullard Vertical Turret Lathes
2. Operating industrial machinery, which can include hydraulic press, grinder, borer, drill press, vertical lathes, or overhead crane.
3. Fitting the right tools to active machines.
4. Performing proper set-up and calibration procedures for all equipment and accessories.
5. Setting tolerance levels and cutting speeds.
6. Translates the requirements of detailed part drawings into measurements for production.
7. Inspecting workflows to ensure that technical and quality standards are met.
8. Devising a work plan to efficiently carry out daily machining.
9. Conforms to all governmental and organizational policies, procedures, guidelines and practices regarding safety, quality and economical efficiency.
10.Ensure that work environment is free of safety issues and the ease of flow through the machining

Required Skills / Abilities:
1. Proven experience as CNC operator: Most notably a vertical turret lathe and large drill press.
2. High school diploma or equivalent; certification or diploma in machine tool or relevant discipline is a plus.
3. Must be 18 years of age
4. Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
5. Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings.
6. Computer savvy with basic understanding of computer programing and CAD/CAM.
7. Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
8. A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
9. Able to physically stand, bend squat, and lift minimum of 50 pounds
10. Excellent attendance
11. Forklift Certification with 90 days of job entry
12. Multi-tasking and organized
13. Able to maintain a dependable and flexible work schedule
14. Able to work independently or as an active member of a team
15. Excellent interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of management
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a manufacturing environment. This role requires communication and ability to work with others. The employee will be exposed to manufacturing environment, including forklift traffic, fumes, noise, and operating manufacturing equipment.
Physical Demands:
1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to squat. Must be able to bend at the knees, and flexible enough to work in awkward positions.
2. Must be able to stand and work on your feet for extended periods of time.
3. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and talk or hear.
4. Must be able tolerate fluctuations in temperature and humidity.
5. Must be able to work with hands and have the manual dexterity to use misc. hand tools (i.e. hammer, screwdriver etc.).
6. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
7. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 6:00AM to 4:30PM. To meet our customer demands and internal objectives, at times this role will be required to work outside of the normal schedule, including weekends.

No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent work experience and/or education.
Preferred Education and Experience:
1. Certification or diploma in machine tool or relevant discipline
2. High School degree.
