What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDL Truck Driver position at OTR Engineered Solutions?
The truck driver’s responsibilities include arranging goods inside the company truck based on the order of delivery, performing general maintenance on the company truck, answering customers' questions, and notifying management of customer complaints. You should also be able to adjust local travel routes in instances of traffic congestion, road maintenance, and accidents. This position will also support our shipping and receiving team as needed with picking orders and general warehouse duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:

- Safely transporting goods to and from specified locations according to company delivery schedules.
- Maintaining an accurate logbook of driving activities, detailing the number of hours worked, deliveries completed.
- Liaising with dispatch to communicate any traffic issues and delays.
- Properly secure goods to ensure that they are not damaged in transit.
- Assisting in the loading and unloading of goods, using hand trucks and electric lifts as required.
- Prepare products for shipment: palletize, wrap or band to ensure products arrive in the manner expected by our customers
- Obtaining signatures from customers upon completion of each delivery to confirm receipt of goods.
- Notifying management of any accidents, parking tickets, vehicle damage, and major maintenance issues.
- Ensuring that the company truck is always clean and well-maintained.
- Must have good attendance and be a team player.
- Other duties can be assigned based on company needs and employee capabilities.
Competencies:
1. Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned vehicle
2. Drive vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 26,000 lbs.
3. Pick-up and safely transport goods to the intended destination
4. Ensure contents are properly secured in a truck, flatbed to prevent damage/injury
5. Obtain signatures to confirm and complete deliveries
6. Assist in mapping driving routes
7. Stay on a predetermined route and ensure timely transport and delivery
8. Communicate with dispatch as needed
9. Must be able to interact with Customers
10. Confirm that the contents of each shipment load match the manifest document
11. Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip
12. Check weather conditions and road reports before departure
13. Always ensure your vehicle is kept clean
14. Maintain and service vehicle as needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure, repairs, etc.)
15. Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered
16. Follow delivery schedule and rest at appropriate times
17. Maintain detailed driving and delivery log
18. Track and report working hours
19. Adhere to company rules and regulations
20. Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive in according to the weather/road conditions
21. Comply with ICC and DOT regulations
22. Make safety a priority at all times
Required Skills / Abilities:
1. High school diploma or GED.
2. A clean driving history.
3. Sound knowledge of road safety regulations.
4. The ability to utilize GPS and local road maps.
5. The ability to operate hand trucks and electric lifts.
6. Effective communication skills.
7. Punctual and reliable.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills
9. Able to maintain a dependable and flexible work schedule that will include routes to neighboring states, with some overnight stays
10. Able to organize, maintain focus, and follow up on projects independently
11. Maintains a professional appearance
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a warehouse/shipping setting or in a truck in all kinds of weather conditions, road conditions, and other conditions. This job routinely uses a lift trucks, floor jacks, and various other material moving equipment. Also includes long periods of driving
Physical Demands:
This is a very active role requiring lifting heavy weights up to 75 pounds. At least 20/40 vision with glasses or corrective lenses is required. You must have a vision of 70-degree field in each eye and good hearing ability.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 4:00PM
Travel:
The route will be to neighboring states, with some overnight stays.
Required Education and Experience:
1. High School diploma or GED
2. Valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class A) required
3. 3 years of similar driving experience
4. Clean driving record with no moving violations
5. Must pass a background check and drug test
Preferred Education and Experience:
1. High School diploma or GED
2. 5 years of similar driving experience preferred
