Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) is seeking two full-time skilled and dependable Facilities Technicians to help maintain and improve our facilities throughout Oswego County. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who enjoys hands-on work, variety in their day, and the satisfaction of keeping buildings and grounds safe, functional, and welcoming for the people we serve.

As a Facilities Technician, you will work both independently and alongside a dedicated maintenance team to complete repairs, preventative maintenance, and facility improvement projects. No two days are the same, and your work will make a direct impact across multiple OCO locations.

Job Summary

The Facilities Technician performs a wide range of maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping duties at Agency facilities. Working under the supervision of the Lead Facilities Technician and Facilities Manager, this position supports the upkeep, safety, and functionality of OCO properties while ensuring compliance with Agency policies, program requirements, funder regulations, and applicable building codes.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform building and grounds maintenance at Agency locations.
  • Complete routine to complex maintenance and repair tasks independently.
  • Troubleshoot facility issues and escalate specialized repairs when necessary.
  • Perform carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general maintenance work.
  • Assist with larger facility improvement projects as part of the maintenance team.

Grounds & Seasonal Work

  • Perform lawn maintenance and landscaping duties as assigned.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal during winter months.

Work Order & Documentation Management

  • Manage daily assignments through the OCO Facilities Work Order System.
  • Track and document work performed, materials used, and project progress.
  • Provide accurate records for billable hours, maintenance costs, and repair expenses.
  • Complete required paperwork, including timesheets, mileage reports, vehicle records, purchasing documentation, and billing information.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Collaborate with maintenance staff to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors regarding priorities, facility concerns, and changing needs.
  • Maintain a professional, positive, and customer-focused approach when interacting with staff, tenants, and community partners.
  • Report facility concerns, maintenance needs, complaints, and safety issues promptly.

On-Call & Emergency Response

  • Participate in an after-hours and weekend on-call rotation.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to support facility needs and assist team members when coverage is required.

Additional Duties

  • Purchase approved supplies and materials necessary to complete assigned work.
  • Monitor facility conditions and proactively identify maintenance needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of building maintenance, electrical systems, plumbing, and general repair practices.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and solve problems effectively.
  • Strong organizational, recordkeeping, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to represent the Agency positively within the community.
  • Flexibility to accommodate occasional after-hours and emergency response needs.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in a variety of environments and weather conditions.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Valid New York State driver's license with a driving record that meets Agency standards.
  • Regular access to a reliable, properly insured vehicle for travel throughout Oswego County.
  • Must possess a personal set of basic tools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Additional training or coursework in a skilled trade preferred.
  • Five (5) years of directly related paid maintenance experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
