The Quality Assurance Technician will play a key role in upholding the food safety and quality standards that Oskaloosa Food Products. QA Techs are expected to hold themselves to a high standard of accuracy, food safety, and integrity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accurately complete all required documentation including CCP (critical control point) records
  • Perform pre-operational, CCP, and GMP (good manufacturing practices) inspections
  • Perform environmental and food contact surface sampling
  • Confirm accuracy checks on thermometers
  • Verify product specifications, weights, color, and other attributes of finished product
  • Monitor packaging to ensure correct labeling, date coding, and correct packaging is being followed
  • Monitor metal detectors and scales to ensure complete accuracy
  • Provide individual or group training to production employees on SOPs, product specifications, statistical process controls (SPCs), production controls, formulas, visual quality inspection criteria, GMPs, and Food Safety procedures
  • Assist in development of SOPs by working with production operators to understand current operating procedures, identify best methods, and help document new and/or updated standard operating procedures
  • Assist in developing HACCP plans, SOPs, and maintaining food safety programs for SQF (Safe Quality Food) audits
  • Control and retain samples and associated reports
  • Monitor production with regard to food safety, including conferring with the QA Manager if there is a need to cease production due to a food safety concern or product quality issue
  • Other duties as assigned, including cross-training to back-up the Lab Technician when needed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Food Safety (HACCP, allergens, sanitation processes, GMPs)
  • Passion for accuracy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with coworkers and supervisors 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • One year of food quality related experience (preferred)

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Occasional bending, and fine manipulation skills using hands, shoulders, and back
  • Ability to make precise, coordinated movements with the body to grab, manipulate or move products/objects
  • Ability to visually interpret instructions
  • Able to work on foot for required periods of time
  • Occasional lifting of up to 55 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb stairs as needed
  • Ability to work in various temperatures (varies from moderate to hot) including occasional high humidity
  • Ability to work with PPE/Safety equipment when required including: safety glasses and hair/beard nets

PPE/Safety:

  • Required in production areas: Safety glasses, hair/beard nets, and hearing protection
