What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Cellular Test Engineer (5GNR/LTE) – Product Field Testing for Devices position at OSI Engineering?
Responsibilities:
- Drive to local and non-local areas on short notice to test cellular connectivity of next-gen smartphones and devices (mix of field and lab work).
- Travel up to 1 hour away, up to 4 days per week. Transportation/driver provided.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical issues independently using strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Test, analyze, and validate device performance; adapt quickly without requiring constant direction.
- Perform log analysis in the lab and clearly report data, technical issues, and findings.
- Maintain strong attention to detail and assess testing conditions to ensure accurate results.
Requirements:
- 2–8 years of cellular testing experience (5G/LTE stack).
- Solid understanding of:
- Physical Layer Concepts: MIMO, CQI, MCS, Channel Feedback, RSRP, SNR
- Network Technologies: VoLTE, VoNR, EPSFB, CSFB, ENDC, MRDC
- Wireless Fundamentals: Channel, Bandwidth, Frequency, Band, etc.
- Cellular baseband log analysis for 4G, LTE, and 5G features (hands-on experience required).
- Willingness to learn and expand skills in field testing if lacking direct experience.
- Strong analytical skills, independent decision-making, and ability to troubleshoot field setups.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and focused on problem identification.
- Available to travel locally and non-locally on short notice.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct cellular field-testing experience.
- Ability to analyze logs for on-field debugging.
Location: Cupertino, CA (onsite)
Pay Range: $50–$60/h (DOE)
