Device Validation Lab Technician / Lab Validation Engineer
Summary:
This role supports validation activities for Data Center Systems through device provisioning, test execution, log collection, lab operations, and automation support. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering lab environment. This position will help ensure test devices, infrastructure, and validation workflows operate efficiently while supporting engineering teams with data collection and issue reproduction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configure, provision, maintain, and manage test devices and validation hardware
- Execute validation test plans, test procedures, and automated test workflows
- Perform device setup, software installation, re-imaging, resets, and updates
- Monitor test execution and identify failures, anomalies, and unexpected behavior
- Reproduce issues reported by engineering teams and collect supporting diagnostic data
- Collect, organize, and archive system logs, crash reports, traces, and performance data
- Perform basic log analysis and identify recurring failure patterns
- Maintain lab equipment, test stations, networking, cables, and infrastructure
- Troubleshoot device connectivity, hardware, power, and lab-related issues
- Manage device inventory, software versions, and lab asset tracking
- Support automation initiatives through basic Python scripting and workflow execution
- Create clear bug reports, document findings, and maintain validation procedures
- Provide regular status updates on testing progress, device readiness, and lab health
- Collaborate closely with validation, software, hardware, and infrastructure engineering teams
Required Skills & Experience:
- 2 years of experience supporting hardware validation, device testing, lab operations, or technical support environments
- Experience working with computing devices, server hardware, embedded systems, consumer electronics, or related technologies
- Comfortable working in Linux, macOS, and/or Windows command-line environments
- Basic Python scripting experience for test execution, automation support, or troubleshooting
- Experience executing test plans and following detailed validation procedures
- Experience collecting and organizing system logs and diagnostic information
- Basic understanding of networking concepts including Ethernet, TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, and device connectivity
- Experience using Jira or similar defect tracking systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills
- Associate''s or Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience supporting hardware validation labs or engineering lab environments
- Experience with data center systems, server hardware, storage, or networking equipment
- Familiarity with automation frameworks and test infrastructure
- Experience with device provisioning, imaging, and fleet management
- Knowledge of log analysis and debugging workflows
- Experience maintaining large device fleets (100 devices)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing environments
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams
Duration: 12 months
Location: Austin, TX (Onsite)
Pay Rate Range: $55-$65/hr (DOE)
