What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator position at Orthopaedic Hospital?
SUMMARY:
- The Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator (VOC) will assist in the coordination of volunteer/intern recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, duties, recognition, evaluation, and retention. The VOC will also coordinate seasonal in-kind donation drives, assist with outreach to potential community and corporate partners to coordinate volunteer and in-kind donation opportunities, and provide event support. The position's primary responsibility is to assist with the management and growth of LuskinOIC’s volunteer program, and support fundraising initiatives to include program in-kind donation drives, cause-related marketing, community/corporate engagement and event sponsorships.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordination of daily operations; to include recruiting volunteers/interns, screening and interviewing of volunteers/interns, scheduling, orientation, training, recognition and evaluations
- Communicate with department managers to assess volunteer needs at LuskinOIC
- Assist with event coordination; to include Toys & Joy, Ozzie’s Spooktacular, Swing for Kids Golf Classic, Ozzie’s Eggstravaganza, Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, and Gala Stand for Kids
- Assist with volunteer committees for Toys & Joy event, Summer Intern, Bonter Scholarship, Corporate Engagement, Educate2Elevate, P2P annual fund, support groups, OMMHS, and others.
- Oversees and manages in-kind donation drives including promotion, procurement, inventory management, acknowledgement, and reporting of annual Back to School, Food, and Toy Donation drives.
- Takes a leadership role in planning, executing and growing key annual volunteer-related events such as Volunteer Recognition Luncheon and Summer Intern Presentations.
- Manages inventory and organization of donations and volunteer supplies in storage rooms.
- Social media/marketing support for all volunteer programs, including LuskinOIC and support group newsletters.
- Manages a vibrant volunteer training (orientation) with component for staff training.
- Completion of annual volunteer needs assessment.
- Reaching assigned volunteer goals, to include growth in number of volunteer hours, diversity of volunteer mix, as well as depth and scope of program.
- Entry of volunteer information using the Raiser’s Edge Event Module.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

- Display strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in coordination of LuskinOIC volunteer programs.

- Demonstrate an ability to handle multiple assignments while meeting deadlines, monitor and meet goals set with supervisor.

- Skilled at working with a wide variety of individuals at varying levels and departments of the organization to gain consensus and get tasks completed.
- Ability to proofread printed copy in English required and Spanish preferred.
- Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis as well as in a group setting to convey information, influence others to embrace a specific course of action or explain volunteer duties and LuskinOIC expectations.
- Skilled in remaining focused on timely completion of professional level work while being continually interrupted by phone and in person.
- Skilled in working on extremely short deadlines (hours or minutes) when necessary to complete tasks.
- Must be willing to work evenings/weekends as needed and travel to multiple LuskinOIC site locations in the performance of job functions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma required; Prefer at least 2 years’ College-level course work completed
- Experience in volunteer recruitment or event coordination desired.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires strong multitasking skills, excellent time management, and self-starter mentality.
- Great public speaking, oral and written skills.
- Able to complete assignments with attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
- Proficient in basic computer applications such as Excel and Google Workspace (i.e. sheets, docs)
- Must be resourceful and possess good analytical skills with the ability to think creatively to solve problems.
- Ability to identify events in need of volunteers and be proactive with recruitment and engagement
- Demonstrate strong planning, organization, time management, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers
- Bilingual, English/Spanish or other language preferred, but not required
