Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level, which must include the following experience: monitoring and prioritizing emergency alerts and communications; using emergency management systems such as National Incident Management System (NIMS) to support and track response activities; reviewing documentation and coordinating with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, or international partners during emergencies.


OR
Have a Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree or LL.M. from an accredited college or university.
OR
Have a combination of graduate level education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

As an Emergency Management Specialist, you will:
  • Handle, triage, and manage call volumes that are received by the CDCEmergency Operations Center (EOC).
  • Monitor electronic media including official email traffic and responds to daily and event specific Critical Information Requirements (CIRs) and notifies supervisory leadership when CIRs are triggered.
  • Provide the clearance level and communication channel requirements for public health incidents of concern, including biological, chemical, and radiological/nuclear emergencies and natural disasters, may emerge and pose an imminent threat to locations or specific populations at any time.
  • Assist higher graded staff in the development of effective plans, procedures, protocols, and templates which permit CDC and its programs to respond to emergencies in a coordinated and proactive manner.
