Position Summary

The Regional Underwriting Manager is responsible for managing all underwriters to ensure that processes, policies and procedures are followed, and work meets the quality, compliance and efficiency standards set by Orion Lending. This is a pivotal role that delivers the profitable growth of the business. The primary objective is to deliver professional and efficient customer service to achieve profitable premium growth and underwriting profitability in our core segments, whilst assisting in the management and development of Orion Lending’s underwriting operations and policies.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage and direct the daily activities of the assigned Underwriting Team

• Provide support to staff on a daily basis including answering questions, handling

issues/escalations, file review, compliance interpretation and support.

• Determine critical development areas, resolve problems as they arise, and ensure proper staff coverage levels.

• Ensure quality and service standards are maintained for all facets of the department.

• Recommend/implement changes to increase work efficiency as well as communicate changes/updates to staff. Present recommendations to senior management to improve underwriting and turn times.

• Conduct monthly audits of files to ensure quality and compliance and a sampling of pre-closed loans. Identify any trends.

• Deliver training programs for staff and others.

• Analyze reports to confirm that information is being entered accurately into systems and all tasks/milestones.

• Review daily pipeline report to monitor outstanding files and reduce turnaround times. Ensure that workflows are balanced with minimal constraints that result in inefficiency.

• Assist in the preparation of various reports for management, auditors and examiners.

• Develop and maintain controls to ensure compliance with critical regulatory, policy and investor requirements.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

Individuals must possess a full range of mortgage knowledge, as well as the skills and abilities to fulfill the accountabilities described in this document. An incumbent in this position must possess strong expertise in secondary market and investor guidelines and the ability to motivate staff and plan, organize, implement, and administer the operations of a department. Individuals must have a strong

knowledge of lending compliance and regulations, analyzing credit reports, fundamental accounting

principles, service orientation, immigration regulations, underwriting principles, as well as excellent

written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills and member service skills. Must possess

knowledge of the complete mortgage application process and regulations that apply to mortgage

transactions. Knowledgeable about policies and procedures required to be implemented to ensure

compliance with regulations. Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and time management

skills are required
