Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment used in the manufacturing of Oxford dress shoes. This position ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently to minimize downtime and support production goals. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, experience with industrial equipment, and a commitment to workplace safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment according to established schedules.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems.
• Maintain equipment used throughout the shoe manufacturing process, including:
• Leather cutting machines
• Sewing and stitching machines
• Lasting machines
• Sole attaching and cementing equipment
• Presses
• Buffing, finishing, and polishing machines
• Conveyors and material handling equipment
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
• Diagnose equipment issues and determine appropriate repairs or replacement parts.
• Install new equipment and assist with production line modifications.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and preventative maintenance documentation.
• Inspect equipment regularly for safety concerns and operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Maintain an organized maintenance shop and inventory of replacement parts.
• Collaborate with production supervisors to prioritize repairs and improve equipment reliability.
• Assist with facility maintenance, including lighting, compressed air systems, plumbing, and building repairs as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred.
• 2–5 years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience repairing manufacturing equipment in a production environment.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting skills (motors, sensors, controls) preferred.
• Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
• Work around moving machinery, noise, and industrial equipment.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Working Conditions

• Manufacturing environment producing Oxford dress shoes.
• Exposure to machinery, adhesives, leather materials, dust, and moderate noise levels.
• Overtime and weekend work may be required to support production schedules.

Preferred Skills

• Preventative maintenance planning.
• PLC troubleshooting (preferred but not required).
• Pneumatic and hydraulic system repair.
• Conveyor maintenance.
• Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on reducing equipment downtime and improving production efficiency.
