Job Summary

The School of Communications at Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 9-month, fixed-term Instructor position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.

Appointment at the Instructor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

This Instructor will teach undergraduate courses in the School of Communication (primarily) and the School of Visual, Performing, and Design Arts. In particular, the position will help the School of Communication teach undergraduate courses in media production. The duties will also include providing service to the Discipline, School, College and University in the form of committee work and participation in faculty meetings

The School of Communication is comprised of the New Media Communications and Communication Studies programs. The School includes two undergraduate on-campus degrees, an online degree in Digital Communication Arts, and a BFA . The School also includes one MA/MS program in Communication Studies.

The School of Communication features multiple research labs with support for production work in video, sound, animation, gaming, and virtual reality as well as user research. Our support for research with emerging technologies is among the strongest in the region if not the country. The School is committed to developing a cutting-edge research and teaching agenda surrounding issues of media and emerging technology. Oregon State University holds both “very high research activity” and “Community Engagement” classifications from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and is one of only two universities in the country with Land-, Sea-, Space- and Sun-Grant designations. What You Will Need

  • MA in Communication, Journalism, Mass Communication, New Media, Film, Video, Emerging Technology, Graphic Design, or a Related Field
  • Experience Teaching College Media Production Courses
  • Evidence of Professional Skill level in Media Production
  • Evident commitment to educational equity, effectiveness, and inclusivity

Additional Qualifications for Appointment at the Rank of Senior Instructor I:

  • Four years of teaching college media production courses
  • Demonstrated Excellence in developing new or original College Media Production Courses
  • Leadership in Curriculum Development in a College or University Media Program
  • Evidence of Successful Collaboration with Campus Partners in Production

What We Would Like You To Have

  • MFA or PhD in Communication, Journalism, Mass Communication, New Media, Film, Video, Emerging Technology, Graphic Design, or a Related Field
  • Demonstrated Excellence in teaching standalone/instructor of record in College Media Production Courses
  • Experience teaching both on-campus and online college media production courses
  • Professional industry presence in media production beyond teaching such as field work, software development, film festivals, gallery shows, sports events, or related activities
