The Medical Assistant is key to department success because these front-line team members create efficient flow and a welcoming atmosphere for our patients on a daily basis. This position is responsible for administrative and clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, and assisting Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers with exams and bone marrow biopsies. Daily schedule management and timely documentation within the electronic health record creates smooth patient flow for the provider. MAs use critical thinking and problem-solving strategies to ensure timely, professional, and compassionate care.
This is a full-time position. Hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-4:45pm with a 45 minute lunch. Occasional travel to our office in Salem is required.
Essential Job Functions
- Interview patients to obtain medical information, confirm demographic information as indicated
- Accurate recording of patient’s medical history, medication reconciliation, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examination, keeping the rooms neat, clean and stocked.
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the Physician.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by the Physician.
- Give medically appropriate instructions to patients under the direction of a Physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
- Preparing provider charts ensuring all related patient information is in the electronic medical record prior to appointment.
- Prepare FMLA, prior authorizations and disability paperwork.
- Collaborate and work closely with providers and other medical assistants and ancillary staff.
- Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers by following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
- Assist during procedures.
- Reports to the Clinic Manager.
- Travel to our Oak Street Clinic as needed
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management, for which appropriate training will be provided, to support departmental objectives and organizational success
Required Qualifications
- Two years of MA experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant certificate
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments
- Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual-Spanish
- Oncology or outpatient clinic experience ideal
