What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Staff Accountant position at Oregon Association of Nurseries?
The Oregon Association of Nurseries (OAN) seeks a Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and reporting. This role will report directly to the Director of Finance. You will play a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records and membership data between multiple software platforms to ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and membership requirements.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Assist Director of Finance in processing accounts payable and receivable, ensuring proper coding and documentation
- Administer daily cash receipts, both credit card transmittals and check deposits
- Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Maintain the general ledger and support month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Help track and report on restricted and unrestricted funds and donations, including ONPAC and ONF funds
- Assist in preparation of financial reports for internal departments and external stakeholders
- Support the audit process by providing necessary documentation and schedules
- Ensure proper filing and retention of financial records in compliance with organizational policies
- Collaborate with program teams to ensure proper allocation of expenses to projects
- Assist with chapters and teams to ensure accurate financial recording
- Maintain accurate and up to date member records across multiple databases and platforms and perform monthly data syncs
- Regularly audit member data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
Successful candidates will have the following skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or working towards degree)
- 1–2 years of accounting experience (internship or nonprofit experience is a plus)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks or similar)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be able to work independently while multi-tasking
This position is full-time, Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be required for special events. The OAN offers a competitive hourly wage (starting at $24-26/hr.
