Full Charge Bookkeeper — Job DescriptionPosition Overview
The Full Charge Bookkeeper is responsible for managing the company’s entire accounting process from daily transactions through month-end and year-end financial reporting. This role handles all bookkeeping functions independently, ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with relevant regulations, and timely reporting to management, CPA firms, and external stakeholders.
This position requires strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work autonomously.
Key ResponsibilitiesDaily & Weekly Accounting
- Record all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank transactions, credit card activity, and journal entries.
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Process vendor bills, issue payments, and manage vendor relations.
- Prepare and send customer invoices; track and collect outstanding receivables.
- Manage payroll processing (in-house or through a payroll provider).
Monthly & Quarterly Accounting
- Reconcile all bank, credit card, and loan accounts.
- Prepare month-end closing entries and financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow).
- Maintain depreciation schedules and prepaid expense allocations.
- Prepare sales tax, use tax, and other required filings.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
Year-End & External Support
- Coordinate with CPA for annual tax filings and audits.
- Provide complete, clean year-end financial packages.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Maintain organized digital and physical financial records.
- Monitor and improve financial processes and bookkeeping systems.
- Support management with custom reports and financial analysis.
- Handle HR-related tasks (benefit tracking, onboarding paperwork), depending on the company’s needs.
QualificationsRequired
- Proven experience as a Full Charge Bookkeeper or similar accounting role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger structure.
- Advanced proficiency in bookkeeping/accounting software (QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Xero, or equivalent).
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
Preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience preparing financial statements and working directly with CPA firms.
- Industry-specific experience (e.g., construction job costing, nonprofit fund accounting, retail inventory, etc.).
