The School Counselor plans, organizes, implements and evaluates a comprehensive, developmental and results based school counseling program that aligns with and maintains the standards of the American School Counselor Code Association of Ethics national model of foundation, delivery, management and accountability for students, parents/ guardians, and school. Essential Job FunctionsFoundationCreates a comprehensive school counseling program that focuses on student academic, career and social/emotional outcomes which align with school improvement and student success initiatives at the school, district, and state level systems. DeliveryProvides direct services to students parents/ guardians and staff including but not limited to: StudentsProvision of school counseling core curriculum that supports academic, career and social/emotional plans.Development and provision of effective, responsive interventions, which may include individual or group counseling or crisis response. Administration of assessments that encourage academic, self-awareness and social emotional growth (e.g.
learning styles, multiple intelligences, personal, vocational interest and aptitude)Parents/ GuardiansProvision of supports related to communication skills, developmental issues, emotional and behavior challenges and adjustment to changing family dynamics that impact student achievement and growth.School StaffIdentification of at risk studentsCase management of students referred to Student Support Team/ Education Support Team for social-emotional needsDocumentation and records managementData collection and analysisProgram planning and implementationProvision of faculty presentations and trainings Indirect service for students to students, parents, school staff, including: Referrals to out-of-school providers.Consultations, collaboration and coordination with outside agencies and organizations (e.g. DCF, the courts, community mental health) Promotion of a school climate that recognizes and respects diverse populations and cultures.Management and AccountabilityIncorporates tools that are concrete and reflective of school and student needs, and the efficacy of the school counseling program in meeting these needs.
