Starting Pay:  $34,777 yearly or $35,820 yearly with 3 years of experience

Verifies mail is picked up, sorted, and delivered to the proper section of the agency. Confirms Witness Subpoenas are mailed and sent to Civil Process Officers (CPOs) in a timely manner. #oj


Minimum Requirements
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) AND six (6) months experience with mail, courier, or delivery operations preferred.
  • Must have valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam.
  • Must successfully complete mail handling on the job training within six (6) months.
  • Retrieves mail daily at the Post Office. Sorts all mail (including inter-office mail) and determines where to route mail.
  • Delivers mail and picks up mail at each section of the agency. Maintains schedules and routes. 
  • Operates the postage machine which calculates and applies postage for outgoing mail according to weight and classification. Troubleshoots postage machine and contacts vendor if necessary.
  • Utilizes specialized software (STAMPS program) to sort and separate subpoenas for mailing and/or CPO delivery.
  • Continually watches for suspicious mail. Follows strict procedures for any potentially contaminated articles. 
  • Maintains and orders supplies for mailroom and mail equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  
  • Ability to write simple correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to post office employees and employees of the agency.
  • Must have working knowledge of Orange County geographical area and mail drops. 
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow agency policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to perform basic math and apply common sense understanding in order to carry out written or oral instructions. 
  • Must have basic computer skills to perform functions in Microsoft Office and Outlook and also have the ability to research information to find employee locations using the agency Portal. 
  • Must have the ability to learn and utilize other specialized software applications (e.g., Pitney Bowes Sendsuite Tracking Software and D1950 Inserting System). 
  • Ability to drive an agency vehicle to deliver and retrieve mail. 
  • Ability to interact with diverse workgroups throughout the agency.
  • Ability to plan and organize.
  • Must have the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information and items (e.g., transports packaged firearms released from evidence for mailing, transfers large amounts of money from savings to postage account).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS  


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or balance. The employee is occasionally required to smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must have close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and also depth perception.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock if working with postage machine. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May be required to work irregular work hours.
